Jack Becker's notation:   Montie Slaughter, who died in the gunfight with Ed Beeler at the Saffell Saloon, was buried here.
C. V. Peery who was in the saloon that day was also buried here.

First Cousin to famous "Texas John Slaughter," Peter Slaughter and his rough trail hands brought the first Texas cattle to the White Mountains c1881 and built his P Lazy S Ranch on the Black River.  Pete is buried here with three sons and family.
